Girls soccer: Crystal Lake South claims FVC Valley title

Crystal Lake South's girls soccer team (12-5, 5-0) claimed the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division title outright with a perfect 5-0 record after its 3-1 win over Huntley (13-3-1, 2-1) Friday in what CLS coach Jay Mueller says was the most complete game he's seen in his 3 years at the helm.

"They really came out and took it to Huntley right away," said Mueller, who shared the division title 2 years ago with Prairie Ridge. "I don't think I've ever seen a happier group of kids go in there on (Huntley's) home field and take it to them. You could tell five to ten minutes into the game they really started to feeling it like, 'we got this, we can play with them' and then we just started clicking."

South scored twice in the first half on goals from Courtney Sengstock while she assisted Brandie Minogue's goal late in the second half.

Defender Jenna Ross recorded 1 assist.

The Gators dominated possession according to Mueller and put pressure on the Red Raiders throughout.

"They really bounced back from a tough week," said Mueller, who noted his team's letdown against some higher profile teams in the PepsiCo Showdown. "But once we got into the conference schedule I think they started to realize they got better because of that and then we got the momentum."

The next time Huntley and CL South could meet is if both win their Class 3A regionals (at Huntley and Cary-Grove) and meet in the Streamwood sectional final on Saturday, May 28.

Burlington Central 5, Lincoln-Way Central 3 (Thursday's late result): Tied at the half, Central (14-5) got a win in the Naperville Invite with a 4-2 edge in the second half. The Rockets will play Palatine at 10 a.m. Saturday at Naperville Central.

Bartlett 4, Plainfield Central 0: Shelley Lyjak 's 2 goals and 2 assists helped the Hawks eclipse last year's win total with a dominant nonconference win.
