Medical examiner rules bartender's death a homicide

CHICAGO (AP) - The Cook County medical examiner has ruled a homicide the death of a Chicago bartender who was left unconscious on the street after being punched and accidently run over by taxi.

A video recently released by the family of 32-year-old Marques Gaines shows more than a dozen people doing nothing to help him after he was punched by a man and fell to the ground Feb. 7. The video shows people walking past the prostrated Gaines before a taxi runs over him. His cellphone and debit card were stolen.

The medical examiner's office said Gaines' death was due to multiple injuries from being run over and to the assault that left him in the street.

Gaines' family has filed a wrongful death and negligence lawsuit against several businesses and taxi companies in his death.
