Rachel Carson and the Environmental Movement

Living History Portrayer Leslie Goddard will share stories about Rachel Carson, author of the 1962 book Silent Spring, from 7-8 p.m., Monday, May 9, in the Rasmussen Room of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. To register for this free program, call (847) 923-3347, or visit the Information Desk on the library's second floor.

When Carson warned the world about chemicals impacting the environment, her message was met with a combination of horror, outrage and disbelief. Those with a respect for nature rallied in support, thereby initiating what eventually became the environmental movement. Companies guilty of pollution, and those who profited from them, tried to discredit this passionate marine biologist. Attendees will learn more about Carson's efforts and hear her stories through this living history portrayal.
