Cubs C Montero headed to DL; Federowicz called up from Iowa

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Cubs catcher Miguel Montero is headed to the 15-day disabled list with lower back tightness.

Catcher Tim Federowicz was traveling from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday to take Montero's roster spot.

Montero was a late scratch from Tuesday's game against Milwaukee and hasn't played since Sunday. The move is retroactive to Monday and Cubs manager Joe Maddon expects Montero to turn within two weeks.

The Cubs decided on the veteran Federowicz over prospect Willson Contreras, who will remain at Iowa.

Maddon said David Ross would catch the next two days, with Federowicz likely starting Saturday against Atlanta.
