Daniel Wright team returns to National Science Bowl

The Science Bowl Team from Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire is competing for the third consecutive year at the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C.

This elite competition for 2016 began Thursday, April 28, and runs through Monday, May 2, and will be the fifth time in six years that a team from Daniel Wright qualified to be part of the national finals.

Representing the Daniel Wright Junior High School Science Bowl Team are: sixth-grader Anmol Dash; seventh-grader Praneet Rathi; and eighth-graders Healey Kogan, Ellen Ma and George Paoletti.

Sophia Capelli serves as the academic coach for the team, and Anthony Hafner serves as the car team coach.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science manages the national finals for high school and middle school teams. Teams will compete in a fast-paced academic competition and also a build-and-race a car event.

The NSB brings together thousands of middle and high school students from across the country to compete in a fast-paced, question-and-answer format where they solve technical problems and answer questions on a range of science disciplines, with questions for middle school students that focus on life sciences, physical science, earth and space science, math, and general science.

"The National Science Bowl continues to be one of the premier academic competitions across the country, and prepares America's students for future successes in some of the world's fastest growing fields in research and engineering," U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said.

"I am honored to congratulate all of the competitors who are advancing to the national finals, where they will continue to showcase their talents as top students in math and science."
