Arlington Heights' electronics recycling event April 30

On Saturday, April 30, the Arlington Heights will host an electronics recycling event sponsored by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Arlington Park Race Track, 2121 Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Residents from Arlington Heights and other SWANCC communities are eligible to participate, however electronics will not be accepted from non-SWANCC residents, businesses, schools or institutions and IDs will be checked for verification of residency. Accepted electronics at SWANCC-sponsored events: Answering machines, cable receiver, calculators, camcorders, cameras, CD and DVD players (no disks), cellphones, computer cables, computer monitors, computers (desktop, Notebook, tablet), converter boxes, copy and fax machines, microwaves, mice, keyboards, MP3 players, Portable Digital Assistants (PDAs), postage machines, power tools and cords, printers, satellite receiver, scanners, shredders, small home appliances (toasters, blenders, etc.), stereo equipment (no wood), landline telephones, televisions (no wood), typewriters, video game consoles, video recorders/players (no VHS tapes) and zip drives.

Do not bring: Dehumidifiers, humidifiers, air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators and other large home appliances.

"SWANCC provides a variety of drop-off locations to assist its residents with the task of recycling banned electronics and other items, so that potentially harmful and recoverable materials are diverted from the landfill," said Mary Allen, SWANCC Recycling and Education director.
