Wheaton Academy soph reaches milestone

Collecting hits in her first two at-bats Tuesday against Riverside-Brookfield, Wheaton Academy sophomore catcher Haleigh VanWagner became the 11th player in state history to record hits in 11 consecutive official plate appearances when she lined a shot up the middle. Her streak ended on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning of the Warriors' 7-6 Metro Suburban Conference loss.

Shortstop Madison Ebeling hit 2 home runs, a double, drove in 5 runs and stole a base for Wheaton Academy (5-8, 2-5). Warriors pitcher Andi Pivaronas allowed 3 earned runs in 7 innings pitched.

Glenbard South 10, St. Edward 3:

Sophomore Mady Carli rapped 3 hits and drove in 3 runs in the Raiders' Metro Suburban Conference win. The Raiders pounded 14 hits, including 4 from senior Aly Miller and 3 from sophomore Bailee Flanagan. Pitcher Ashley Cohen struck out 11 in 7 innings.

Lisle 14, Plano 13:

In a wild Interstate Eight contest, Lisle scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to grab victory. Maggie Carlson hit 2 doubles and had 5 of Lisle's 14 hits, drove in 3 runs and scored 4. The teams combined for 25 hits and 10 errors.

Boys volleyball

Naperville North d. Wheaton North:

Five Naperville North boys volleyball players recorded at least 4 kills in Tuesday's DuPage Valley Conference win over Wheaton North in two games, 25-13, 25-19. Phillippe Russian led the Huskies hitters with 7 kills and Michael Jennings added 5. Kyle Josupait had 21 assists and 7 digs and Connor Sheehan scooped 17 digs. Ben Hamsho had 10 kills and 5 digs for Wheaton North, Tanner Birtcher had 19 assists, 10 digs, and Cory Nickels had 7 digs and 5 kills.

Benet d. Joliet Catholic:

Jackson Van Eekeren assisted on 25 points with 7 digs and 2 service aces in Benet's 26-24, 25-22 East Suburban Catholic Conference win over Joliet Catholic. Benet (16-7) gained 10 kills and 4 aces from John Folts, 8 kills and 5 digs from Ben Mazza, 7 kills and 2 blocks by Chris Yates and 12 digs from Logan Ladowski.

Girls soccer

Wheaton Academy 5, IC Catholic Prep 0:

Wheaton Academy (10-3-1, 5-0) outshot the Knights 24-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference match. Erin Teevans scored twice and assisted on a Gabi LaMantia goal.

Naperville North 2, Neuqua Valley 0:

Morgan Krause and Maddie Krejci scored for the Huskies, who remained undefeated in the DuPage Valley Conference.
