Acclaimed film 'An Act of Love' to be screened in Naperville on May 1

Prince of Peace UMC in Elk Grove is partnering with First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights and Community UMC of Naperville to present the acclaimed film, "An Act of Love" on May 1 in Naperville.

The film tells the story of Rev. Frank Schaefer, who had his ministerial credentials revoked in 2013 after officiating his son's same-sex marriage.

"'An Act of Love' follows Frank and his family, from the initial trial through his final judicial council hearing, as they join the struggle to change the Church from within to allow for greater acceptance of its LGBTQ members and clergy."

The film will be shown at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St., Naperville, followed by a talk back session.

The timing of this event provides interested parties an opportunity to discuss LGBTQ equality within the Church just prior to the Church's General Conference later in May, where these issues will again be debated. The screening is free to attend and all are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Those in the Northwest suburbs who wish to car pool to Naperville should meet at Prince of Peace UMC, 1400 Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove, at 2 p,m.

Believing in God's inclusive love, Prince of Peace welcomes all into full participation in the congregation, regardless of age, ability, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, faith background, family configuration or socioeconomic status.
