Wal-Mart preparing for June opening in Carpentersville

With construction on track to be completed next month, an opening date has been set for Carpentersville's new Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Store manager Phil Armstrong said the nearly 183,000-square-foot store, at Route 25 and Lake Marian Road, is expected to open June 22.

"We're really, really proud of the facility," he said. "It looks great, and we're overall really excited to be here."

A grand opening ceremony and family events will also be held that week, he added.

Wal-Mart is relocating to the new Carpentersville store from an East Dundee location about two miles away. In addition to the 165 current employees making the move, Wal-Mart also expects to hire 160 new associates, most of whom would begin in May to help prepare for the store's reopening.

About half of those positions have been filled so far, Armstrong said.

Wal-Mart is receiving about $4.3 million in tax increment financing funds from Carpentersville to help with construction costs. The new store will include a full grocery section, including a deli and bakery, a vision center and a gas station.

"We hope to bring a lot of great services to town and that the community welcomes us," Armstrong said.
