26 year-old man shot to death in Aurora

A 26-year-old man was fatally shot in Aurora early Saturday, police said.

Officers were called about 6:20 a.m. to the 400 block of Beach Street for a report about a person lying on the sidewalk.

Police found Luis Martinez unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from at least two gunshot wounds. Martinez, who lived in an unincorporated area near Aurora, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:31 a.m., police said.

Police say they have no suspect information and do not know if the shots that struck Martinez were fired by someone in a vehicle or on foot.

Several resident told police they heard multiple gunshots several minutes before officers were called.

Two other homes on the 400 block of Beach Street were struck by gunfire, but no one else was hit, police said.

Earlier Saturday, roughly two miles away, police were called about 5:50 a.m. to the 500 block of Seventh Avenue for a call of shots fired. Officers found a home that had been struck by gunfire multiple times. A vehicle parked in the driveway also was hit. There were no injuries.

An older-model white Lincoln Town Car with a red or black cloth-top roof was seen leaving the area quickly, police said.

There also is no suspect information in that shooting, and police say they do not yet know if it is related to Martinez's death.

An autopsy on Martinez is scheduled for Monday at the Kane County coroner's office in Geneva.
