Geravis scores 2, but Wolves fall to Griffins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Rookie Bryce Gervais scored two goals, but it wasn't enough as Chicago fell to Grand Rapids, 4-3, at Van Andel Arena Friday evening. The home-and-home series resumes April 9 at Allstate Arena.

Gervais, who recently finished his collegiate career at Minnesota State, now has four goals in six games. Teammate Jordan Caron added his 17th goal of the season as the Wolves saw their road win streak snapped at three games.

Chicago (30-34-5-3) opened scoring just 1:24 into the first period when Gervais fired a laser from the left faceoff dot that found the upper corner of the net.

Grand Rapids (44-25-1-1) responded with two quick strikes, scoring three times in the period. Mitch Callahan broke in alone on goaltender Jordan Binnington and had his rebound inadvertently knocked in by a Wolves defenseman at the 7:25 mark. Less than two minutes later, Eric Tangradi produced his 27th goal of the season on a give-and-go with Andy Miele. Grand Rapids made it 3-1 on a short-handed tally when Daniel Clearly took advantage of a neutral-zone turnover and shoveled a pass ahead to Colin Campbell, who scored on a breakaway at 16:36.

Chicago pulled even at 3-3, with a rally that began at 8:06 of the middle period. Ty Rattie rattled a shot off the goal post that Caron one-timed past goaltender Tom McCollum. Gervais then tied the game 2:29 into the third period, converting a two-on-one rush off a pass from Emerson Clark.

Grand Rapids' Mark Zengerle provided the game-winner with 5:32 left in regulation, launching a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that found its way through traffic in front of net.

Binnington (16-17-5) finished with 24 saves; McCollum (15-10-0) turned away 21 shots.

Chicago returns to Allstate Arena to host Grand Rapids on April 9 at 7 p.m.
