Music notes: Chance, Power 92 celebrate Chicago hip-hop

Power 92 showcases Chance, Da Brat

Radio station Power 92 is celebrating 15 years of bringing hip-hop to Chicago's airwaves. Hometown artist Chance the Rapper headlines the anniversary concert, hosted by Da Brat at the Chicago Theatre. The night also features a showcase of local talents, including Lil Bibby, Famous Dex, Katie Got Bandz and Dreezy, so be sure to grab your tickets soon. Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State St., Chicago. $50-$100. (800) 745-3000 or thechicagotheatre.com. 8 p.m. Friday, April 8

'80s at Arcada

Remember sitting in front of the tube during the early days of MTV? The Arcada Theatre's Rock of the 80s night is bringing back those memories with performances by San Francisco rockers The Tubes, Martha Davis and The Motels, and Jersey boys The Smithereens. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., so show up early to snag a drink before the time warp. Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. $29-$79. (630) 962-7000 or arcadalive.com. 8 p.m. Friday, April 8

LBC takes over BaseCamp

My affection for DuPage-born pop-punk-rock band Lucky Boys Confusion has been well documented, and after nearly 20 years putting out consistently good music, they certainly deserve the praise. Their genre-shifting songs keep pace with the scene, which is exactly why they can appeal to a new generation of music-lovers while still drawing older fans to their sold-out shows. The guys team up with Chicago electronic rock band Jetpack Hotline and Indiana's alternative rockers Oceans Over Airplanes at BaseCamp Saturday, so cue up “City Lights” or “40/80” and head over to Lisle for a night of great tunes. BaseCamp Pub, 5750 Lakeside Drive, Lisle. $15. (331) 777-4712 or basecamppub.com. 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9

Local Ghost

When you have a good thing going, it can be hard to let it go. So even though Sean Wilke, the drummer for indie rock trio Matt Wilke's Ghost, lives in St. Louis now, the two local members - Lombard's Matt Wilke and Algonquin's John Contreras - were hesitant to burst that creative bubble. Writing songs and often rehearsing remotely, Matt and his gang brought together enough material to put out a strong new album, “Blameless Lake,” in November of last year. You can catch the new songs when they perform one of their rare live shows at Quenchers Saloon Saturday with Light Coma and Percolator. Quencher's, 2401 N. Western Ave., Chicago. $5. (773) 276-9730 or quenchers.com. 9 p.m. Saturday, April 9
