Schaumburg Library invites all ages to National Library Week kick-off event

"More Than Meets the Eye" will be the theme of the National Library Week Kick-off Celebration from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 10, at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

The three-hour event will include magic, a movie, music and more. No registration or fee is required for this drop-in event.

Three performances will be held in the lobby's display area. Acoustic Guitarist Jacob Sweet will fill the air with music from noon to 1 p.m. Artist Dan Laib will create an illustration from 1-2 p.m., and library visitors may enter a drawing to win his artwork. Following Laib, Classical Guitarist Brad Conroy will perform from from 2-3 p.m.

All ages are invited to see Magician Sean Masterson from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Rasmussen Room. His show, "Quicker Than the Eye," will include sleight of hand and and illusions, embellished with stories, masks and puppets. A limited number of free tickets will be available in kidsZone 20 minutes before the show.

In the Audiovisual Theatre, the library will show the movie "Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away" from 1-2:30 p.m. In this PG-rated movie, a young woman travels through the different tent worlds. No tickets or registration are required for attending the movie.

Families are welcome to paint a mural in the kidsZone throughout the three-hour event. Those interested may drop in anytime from noon to 3 p.m., as no registration or fee is required. Mural painting will take place in the kidsZone Program Room.

In the lobby, four Magic Eye pictures will be displayed for anyone interested in trying to find the image beyond the surface picture. An answer key will be available at the Reception Desk. Also in the lobby, library staff will demonstrate how to download ebooks and music to tablets or smartphones. People are encouraged to bring their devices so they can try downloading with experts on hand to provide assistance. In another section of the lobby will be a general information table, with brochures, flyers, and staff available to answer library-related questions.
