Two shooting victims drive to Beach Park McDonald's for help

Two people who were shot while in their car just before 7 p.m. Wednesday on Sheridan Road in Beach Park have been taken to local hospitals and are expected to survive their injuries, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.

Detective Christopher Covelli, a sheriff's office spokesman, said the victims - who are so far only identified as adult males - appear to have been shot while in their car near the intersection of Yorkhouse and Sheridan Roads. After being shot, the victims were able to drive around a mile north to the McDonald's at 39082 N. Sheridan Road in Beach Park.

Covelli said the victims got out of their car and entered the McDonald's for help where staff called 9-1-1 at 6:52 p.m.

Covelli said emergency personnel took the men to local hospitals and their injuries appear not to be life-threatening.

The investigation into who shot the men continued late into the night Wednesday. Covelli said it is not yet known how many shooters there were and if they were on foot or were also in a vehicle. No suspects are in custody.

Police technicians searched the scene of the shooting for evidence, and detectives canvassed the area looking for people who may have witnessed the crime and if any surveillance cameras in the area may have captured the act, Covelli said.
