Palatine District 15 Special Olympics team wins state title

Palatine Township Elementary School District 15's Special Olympics team, the Blue Jays, won first place in the Junior Division II at the state Special Olympics basketball tournament held March 11-13 in Bloomington.

The 12-member team beat Rushville in their opening game, and went on to defeat Belvidere in the finals.

District 15's Blue Jays qualified for the state competition by bringing home silver in the Special Olympics Illinois District C Junior Basketball Tournament Jan. 9.

The Blue Jays are coached by Linda Gilles-Zirbes, Amanda Carlstrom, Cindy Freisen and Terri Storino.
