Antioch hits Marengo hard in fourth inning

A 7-run explosion in the fourth inning carried Antioch's baseball team to a 12-2 win in six innings over visiting Marengo on Friday.

The Sequoits scored in the fourth on an RBI single by Thomas Boeh, a 3-run double by Connor Geidner, an RBI single by John Petty and a 2-run triple by Ben Gutke.

Geidner had two extra-base hits for Antioch.

Dylan Rathbun brought the heat against Marengo, which managed just 1 hit off Rathbun, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 2 innings of work.

Winning pitcher John Neville allowed 2 runs over 4 innings, striking out six, walking one and giving up 3 hits. Geidner, Gutke, Petty and Alex Unekis helped lead the offensive attack for the Sequoits, as they combined for 10 hits and 6 RBI.

Crystal Lake Central 11, Lakes 1: Simon Varitek was 2-for-2 in the nonconference loss for the Eagles.

Providence Day 7, Grayslake North 5: In Orlando, Fla., Bobby Krebs went 2-for-3 with a double in a losing effort for the Knights against a team from Charlotte, N.C.

Grayslake North got 2 RBI apiece from Jake Damore and Brendan Taskovic, each of whom went 1-for-4.
