Dist. 41 approves 4-year contract with teachers

Lake Villa School District 41 board of education approved a four-year contract with its teachers at a meeting last night, district officials said. Lake Villa Federation of Teachers and board of education announced last month that the two sides had reached tentative agreement on a four-year deal. Full story.

Tony's Finer Foods moving to Prospect Heights

Tony's Finer Foods is expected to open by mid-May in place of the shuttered Ultra Foods in Prospect Heights, Mayor Nick Helmer said yesterday. The Ultra store at 1241 N. Rand Road closed March 1, barely two years after its opening, because of poor performance. Full story.

Fire damages Des Plaines home; no injuries reported

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish a fire in a 2-story single-family house yesterday afternoon on Des Plaines' west side, authorities said. Crews were dispatched to the house near Oakton Street and Ridge Lane at 2:08 p.m. after receiving a report of smoke coming from the northeast corner of the house, fire officials said. Full story.

Lakemoor pushes for settlement to clear way for Woodman's
