Hernandez wins in Kane County District 8 race

Barbara Hernandez of Aurora won the Democratic nomination Tuesday for the Kane County Board District 8 seat, according unofficial results.

She had 721 votes to Margarita "Maggy" Ferguson's 421, with all 16 precincts reporting.

The winner will face Republican Linda Pasetti-Olson of Montgomery in November. Pasetti-Olson was unopposed in the primary.

Incumbent Maria Vazquez, a Democrat, did not run. She was appointed to the seat in 2015 to take over for her late husband, Jesse Vazquez.

Ferguson was backed by the Aurora Township Democratic Organization.

Hernandez, who works for state Rep. Linda Chapa La Via, had the support of Kane County Board members Don Ishmael and Brian Pollock.
