Man dies in three-vehicle crash in Port Barrington

One man was killed in a three-vehicle crash that involved a dump truck Friday morning at Roberts and Darrell roads in Port Barrington, authorities said.

Lake County sheriff's Detective Christopher Covelli said the crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. Friday between a Jeep, a Peterbilt dump truck and a Buick LaCrosse.

According to the preliminary investigation, the dump truck was headed west on Darrell Road and the Jeep was headed south on Roberts road when they collided.

Covelli said the two vehicles entered the intersection at about the same time and investigators do not know which traffic lights were on.

Shortly after the Jeep and dump truck collided, the Buick, which was headed east on Darrell road, was struck by one of the vehicles as well.

The man driving the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene, Covelli said. The drivers of the dump truck and Buick were uninjured. None of the vehicles had any passengers.

The identity of the victim was being withheld Friday until his next of kin could be notified, Covelli said.

The collision remained under investigation late Friday.
