5 hurt when snowmobiles collide on Fox Lake

Snowmobiles collided on Fox Lake near Antioch Thursday afternoon, sending five people to hospitals, police said.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m., and police believe it involved two sleds that were traveling together, said Chris Covelli, Lake County Sheriff's public information officer.

"Preliminary indications show that they were all together," he said. "The sleds did not go into the water."

The injured were driven to 38700 block of North Broadway Avenue in an unincorporated area near Antioch, where fire personnel met them and took five people with nonlife-threatening injuries to hospitals.

The Lake County sheriff's office helped during the early stages of the crash. The conservation police will continue the investigation and issue any citations, Covelli said.
