Runners earn their Super Bowl snacks at Geneva 5K

More than 700 runners earned the right to eat as much they wanted at Super Bowl parties Sunday after completing the 5,000 meters of the Super Shuffle 5K in Geneva.

Among the runners decked out in football jerseys - most of the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers variety - was Brian Cochran of North Aurora. Cochran ran in his Chicago Bears No. 82 Greg Olsen jersey. Olsen was traded in 2011 to the Carolina Panthers and played in Sunday's Super Bowl.

"He was my favorite Bear," Cochran said as he lined up for the race at Geneva Middle School South. "But I'm not rooting for him this year."

Unlike previous years when competitors had to contend with freezing temperatures and blizzard conditions, only a cold wind accompanied the sunshine and dry trails around the course.

Food and games were provided at the post-race Game Day Party across the field from the school at the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center.

Proceeds of the Super Shuffle 5K benefit Geneva Park District's scholarship fund, providing recreational opportunities to community members in need.
