Aurora Central Catholic wins 1A regional

Aurora Central Catholic's wrestling team will see more action as a team this season after winning its own Class 1A regional championship Saturday.

The Chargers scored 169 points to earn the title and qualify for the Sterling Newman dual team sectional.

Garrett St. Clair (160 pounds), Chris Pedersen (182) and Sam Martin (285) all won championships for ACC.

Taking second place for the Chargers and advancing to the Princeton sectional were Antonio Cepeda (106), Mike Schmidt (113), Kyle Hammond (120), Ruben Franco (170) and Chris Gamboa (220), while advancing as third place finishers were Keegan Donnelly (145), Michael Jasin (152) and TJ Colon (195).

Harvest Christian advanced to wrestlers to Princeton as Griffin Ellis (126) and Rickey Lattanzio (132) each finished second.

Class 3A at DeKalb: Jacobs fell just short of the team championship, losing out to Hononegah 184-167. The Golden Eagles did have three champions - Beau Harrier (113), Chris Dranka (138) and Dean Lane (160), while Loren Strickland (170) an Jack Golnick (220) finished second. Taking third place for Jacobs and advancing to the Barrington sectional were David Dudych (132), Jacob Sabella (145) and Michael Bujacz (195).

Huntley placed fourth as a team. The Red Raiders' Josh Stenger (120) won a championship, while also advancing to Barrington were Zach Spencer (3rd, 113), Brad Zbislki (3rd, 152) and Christian Olivera (3rd, 182).

Class 3A at Lake Park: Streamwood's Sunny You (132) placed second to advance to next weekend's Conant sectional.
