What's the plan for Buffalo Grove area farmland?

A portion of the Didier Farms property near Buffalo Grove is under contract with a developer, but no one yet is identifying the buyers or what they have in mind for the farmland.

The 50-acre parcel for sale sits on the northern part of the Didier property along Aptakisic Road in unincorporated Lake County. It does not include farm stand on the southern end of the property, which is not for sale.

Both the attorney for the part of the family that is selling it and the village's community development director confirmed the deal this week.

Jack Mardoian, an attorney for the owners, said some due diligence and other issues remain before the sale is final.

"It's got a long way to go to get to the finish line, but it is under contract," he said.

Mardoian declined to identify the potential buyer or disclose their proposed use for the land.

Once sold, it's possible developers follow the lead of the neighboring Hoffman property, which was annexed by the village in 2014 and developed into a residential subdivision of about 40 houses.

If that is the case, the plan would first have to pass through the village's planning and zoning commission before receiving final approval from the village board.

Buffalo Grove Community Development Director Christopher Stilling also declined to give more specifics about the buyer or its potential plans.

"I envision they will be before our village board within the next 60 to 90 days," Stilling said.
