CLC to celebrate Black History Month with arts, more
To celebrate Black History Month, the College of Lake County invites the community to participate in a series of events at the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.
• Feb. 12: Pizza and Movie, 1-3 p.m., Room C003. "Dear White People" is a film that focuses on African-American students and their perspectives under the light of escalating racial issues at prestigious colleges.
• Feb. 20: Poetry and Jazz in Motion, 5-9 p.m. in Rooms C003 and C005. Chicago poets and jazz musician Tim Cunningham will perform. Cost is $5 for the show or $7 for show and dinner. This is a fundraiser in for the Holly Graham Scholarship. Graham was a Black Student Union member who was killed in car accident in 2007.
• Feb. 24: Black History Museum's Traveling Exhibit, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in C003 at the Grayslake Campus. This innovative, tabletop exhibit depicts black memorabilia, spanning from slavery to hip-hop. A facilitator will narrate historic events depicted in the exhibit.

• Feb. 27: CLC Gospel Choir Concert, 4 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for Performing Arts. Clap along to uplifting gospel selections presented by the choir, along with soulful soloists and a rocking rhythm section. The concert will include selections from "Gospel Mass" by Robert Ray, gospel songs by historic and contemporary artists and traditional spirituals. • April 2: The college's 32nd Annual Salute to Gospel Music Program has a new location and date. The event will be held at CLC's James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre at 7 p.m. Details of this exciting event will be announced soon.
