Fire leaves six-unit Rosemont apartment building uninhabitable

A three-story Rosemont apartment building was deemed uninhabitable after a fire there Wednesday morning, authorities said.

A resident of the six-unit building at 9591 Maple Drive phoned 911 dispatchers at 9:54 a.m. to report her apartment was on fire, according to Cmdr. Greg Nazuka of the Rosemont Public Safety Department.

All residents safely evacuated, and no one was injured, but the structure was found to be uninhabitable by a village inspector due to the extensive smoke, fire and water damage, Nazuka said.

The building is located in a cluster of apartment buildings behind an office complex that includes the U.S. Bank on Higgins Road, near the Tri-State Tollway.

The property owner told public safety officials that all six units were rented out. Residents were taken to the nearby Dunne Park warming shelter where they were provided with water.

While firefighters who arrived to the scene saw flames and smoke coming from the rear of the building, a precise origin of the fire and cause is still being investigated, Nazuka said.

Firefighters from Des Plaines and Schiller Park assisted Rosemont in the response.
