DMG acquires two physician groups

DOWNERS GROVE - DuPage Medical Group has acquired Midwest Digestive Disease Specialists in Oakbrook Terrace and Naperville and Optima Medical Associates in Joliet.

Terms of the acquisitions were not announced.

The acquisition of Midwest Digestive Disease Specialists in DuPage County adds the availability for patients who meet certain criteria to conveniently schedule in-office gastroenterology procedures in one place, during one visit.

Board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine, Midwest Digestive's four highly skilled specialists will join DMG's team of physicians:

• Dr. Stephen Grill was the founding member of the group. He is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, and earned a medical degree from Loyola University. Dr. Grill completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Loyola University.

• Dr. George Morgan currently serves as medical director of clinical informatics at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and earned a medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed his fellowship training at Loyola University.

• Dr. Matthew Smith is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago where he also completed his gastroenterology fellowship.

• Dr. Shabana Shahid is a graduate of The University of Toronto in Canada. She earned a medical degree from the Saint George's University School of Medicine in 2005 and went on to complete her residency and fellowship at Temple University Hospital. In addition to English, Shahid is fluent in Hindi and Urdu.

DMG's acquisition of Optima Medical Associates in Joliet adds two internists to the group:

• Dr. Brian Ragona, who earned his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Chicago Medical School. He went on to complete his internship, residency and fellowship at Loyola University of Chicago, McGaw Hospital.

• Dr. Robert Schubert, who earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College at Chicago, College of Medicine. Dr. Schubert completed his internship and residency at Lutheran General Hospital.

The acquisition provides more access for patients and continues to expand DMG's provider base into the Joliet area.

"We're very excited about the addition of these practices, both of which were built by very accomplished physicians," says Dennis Fine, Chief Operating Officer of DuPage Medical Group. "Further expanding our specialty services and DMG's Joliet footprint is part of our steadfast commitment to our patients."
