Great start helps Grant past Lakes
Host Grant held the Lakes girls basketball team scoreless in the first quarter on the way to a 40-33 victory Tuesday in North Suburban Prairie play.
Jasmine Sangster scored a team-high 13 points to lead Grant (13-10, 7-3), and Keyana Linbo had 10.
Lakes (15-10, 7-2) got a game-high 15 points from Ellie Haviland, including a 3-pointer and 9 points in the fourth quarter.
Grant made 10 of its 19 free throw attempts, while Lakes only got to the foul line twice.
Wauconda 48, Round Lake 35: Junior center Katie Rossetti (11 points) and senior guard Corrina Vaughn (10 points) led the way as the visiting Bulldogs earned a victory in NSC Prairie play.
One key to the outcome was the third quarter, during which Wauconda (12-10, 4-6) outscored the Panthers 11-2.
"Beginning games with intensity has been a problem for us all year," said Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis. "We made some adjustments at half and came out a different team in the second."
Senior forward Miyah Johnson scored a game-high 12 points for Round Lake (4-18, 0-9), and Tatyana Steadman had 9.
Vernon Hills 66, North Chicago 24: Junior guard Becky Bahlmann paced a balanced Cougars scoring effort with 16 points in North Suburban Prairie play.
Bahlmann hit a pair of 3s and went 2-for-2 at the foul line over the first three quarters as Vernon Hills had all 12 of its players score. Senior guard Danielle Comitor and junior guard Sammie Biede had 8 points apiece for the Cougars (13-10, 6-4).
Lake Zurich 34, Mundelein 19: The visiting Bears won for the seventh time in their last eight games to pick up a win in the NSC Lake.
Abby Pirron scored a game-high 18 points, shooting 7-for-8 from the field and going 4-for-4 at the free throw line for the Bears (13-8, 6-3), and McKenna Zobel had 8 points.
Mundelein (5-18, 1-8) dropped its fifth straight decision and was led in scoring by Amy Richards (5 points).
Stevenson 56, Carmel 46: Stevenson improved to 21-4 by claiming a victory on the Patriots' senior night.
Ashley Richardson led Stevenson with 24 points, while Kiana Cencula contributed 13 and Jessica Burke 12.
Carmel (8-13) was paced by 15 points by Daija Pruitt.
