Parking lot in Rosemont entertainment district primed for development

A parking lot in Rosemont's bustling entertainment district is being primed by village officials for future development.

Mayor Brad Stephens says his office has received a "high amount" of inquiries from businesses that want to open at MB Financial Park, the 200,000-square-foot complex located east of the Tri-State Tollway and north of Balmoral Avenue.

That's why officials are altering a lease agreement with iFly, the indoor sky diving company that opened its Rosemont facility in 2014, to free up a parking lot for a potential 6,000-square-foot building.

The original iFly agreement contained a covenant that the lot could only be used for parking, but the village board last week approved an amendment to the deal that allows development of the site.

The lot between iFly and Muvico theater is one of the few remaining open spaces in the entertainment district, which opened in 2012. A smaller lot directly in front of iFly would remain as parking, under terms of the amended agreement.

Stephens said he's received many calls from those interested, but there are no plans officially in the works for a new entertainment district tenant.

"It's got to be the right user," Stephens said.
