Brother of ex-Bear Urlacher can run for Illinois Senate, officials rule

Mettawa Mayor Casey Urlacher can continue his bid for Illinois Senate on the March 15 primary ballot, state elections officials ruled today.

Urlacher is part of a three-candidate Republican primary race with Dan McConchie of Hawthorn Woods and Barrington Hills Mayor Martin McLaughlin to replace state Sen. Dan Duffy, a Lake Barrington Republican.

The brother of former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher survived a challenge to his candidacy that claimed he didn't get enough petition signatures to appear on the ballot.

Even after more than 1,000 of his signatures were invalidated by a review process, Urlacher survived the challenge with just 48 signatures more than the 1,000 required to spare.

The case could be appealed.

Will Urlacher make the primary ballot?
