Batavia schools accepting nominations for Hall of Honor

Batavia Unit District 101 and the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence are now accepting nominations for the 2016 Hall of Honor recognition program.

The program is designed to honor accomplishments made by Batavia High School alumni, District 101 staff members, and community members who have demonstrated excellence in their field and/or commitment to the district.

Honorees will be inducted into the Hall of Honor in the fall of 2016. A permanent display of inductees is showcased at Batavia High School in the school's main hall.

"We have excellent students in Batavia Public Schools, so it follows that they would leave us and make great contributions in their chosen paths," says Superintendent Dr. Lisa Hichens. "This is the second year for the BPS Hall of Honor, which serves as an inspiration for current and future Bulldogs."

Candidates must be nominated and fulfill the criteria in one of the following categories:

Alumni

• Personal Achievement: Batavia High School graduates who have demonstrated excellence and made significant contributions in their field (academic, business, literary, professional, scientific, medical, the arts, athletics) and who have been out of school for at least 15 years.

• Service: Batavia High School graduates who have contributed significantly to their community, state, or country, and have been out of school for at least 15 years.

Non-alumni - Special Recognition

• Commitment: Past or present staff members who worked at District 101 for a minimum of 10 years and who, through their employment at Batavia, have demonstrated a deep commitment to Batavia students, parents, and/or staff.

• Friend of Batavia: Individuals who have given meritorious service to Batavia and/or one or more of its schools for many years or have been a loyal friend to Batavia and/or one more of its schools. Batavia staff members are not excluded from this category. However, nominations of Batavia staff members in this category shall be for something other than what they achieved as an employee.

Nominations may be submitted by any member of the community, alumni or staff member.

Completed applications are due by Monday, Feb. 1, and may be submitted online at bps101.net/hallofhonor, or via email HallofHonor@bps101.net, fax (630) 937-8801, or personal delivery to the superintendent's office at 335 W. Wilson St., Batavia.
