Is there a particular issue that motivates you? If so, what?My goal as a County Board member will be to provide the best service to the public at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers. I am a sensible and open-minded individual. My education, involvement in community affairs, talent for listening, and sense of fair play for the people of McHenry County are reasons why I am the best candidate.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of any important initiatives you've led. If you are a challenger, what would you bring to the board and what would your priority be?As chairwoman of the Community Development Block Grant commission, I secured approximately $921,000 in funding for nine different agencies and municipalities for use in various construction and service projects throughout the county. I have also approved funding for the Western Algonquin Bypass and the construction of the Johnsburg roundabout. I have supported to keep the tax levy flat for the past five years.Describe your position regarding the balance between county spending and revenues as it exists today, then describe the chief threats you see looming in the future and how the county should deal with them. In particular in the suburbs, President Preckwinkle has set a goal of eliminating unincorporated areas from county oversight. Do you agree with this approach? If so, how should the county go about it?McHenry County should always be looking for ways to eliminate waste and duplication and improve the delivery of important services. Several of the departments are incorporating software that will provide increased accuracy and better customer service. The county needs to do more with less as all my constituents have had to do. I do not agree with eliminating unincorporated areas from county oversight. The county provides basic services that are often taken for granted; IE law enforcement and public safety, health departments, transportation and infrastructure to name a few.How do you rate the county government on transparency and the public's access to records? If you consider it adequate, please explain why. If you think improvements are needed, please describe them and why they are important.I rate McHenry County as good for transparency. We have received the Sunny Award in the past. The budget is available on the county website, as are the agendas and minutes for all our meetings. A live streaming audio of our county board meetings is now available as well.Please list any elected office you have ever run for and what the result of that election was. Have you ever been appointed to fill an unexpired term?I have run for County Board member four times and have won. I have run for precinct committeeman five times and have won.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?To continue to strive for a balanced budget, protect our ground water, and advocate for affordable housing in the county.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Pope FrancisWhat is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Growing up with five siblings, I learned are art of negotiating.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I would not change anything.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?I enjoyed math and am now employed as a bookkeeper.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Be happy.
