Lake Zurich police save overdose victim

Lake Zurich police say another life has been saved by an officer's use of an opioid overdose reversal medicine.

On Saturday, Dec. 26, Officer Ralph Mitch responded to a call in the 200 block of Whitney Road and used a Naloxone auto-injector to save a 21-year-old man showing signs of an overdose. The man later was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington.

"I am very proud that Officers Mitch and Thiergood acted quickly and were able to save this young man's life," Police Chief Steven Husak said.

It was the fourth Naloxone save by Lake Zurich officers. Lake Zurich police received training earlier this year by the Lake County Health Department in the use of Naloxone in conjunction with the Lake County Opioid Initiative. The initiative's mission is to develop, implement and sustain a countywide effort to prevent opioid use, abuse, misuse, addiction, overdose and death.
