WinterFEST offers outdoor, indoor fun in Addison

Outdoor and indoor fun will be part of Addison Park District's fifth annual WinterFEST from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Community Park, 120 E. Oak St., Addison.

The free event includes a variety of entertainment. Some outdoor activities are weather-dependent and may be slightly modified if there is a lack of snow.

Outdoor activities include horse-drawn wagon rides around Community Park, a s'mores roasting station, and weather-dependent activities such as sledding, snow painting, snowshoe races and a snowman building contest. Additionally, snow football, an igloo-building contest, broomball and 3-on-3 hockey will be added for the 2016 event.

Warm up indoors at the children's craft stations, cookie decorating stations or play bingo while the kids run an obstacle course and enjoy the inflatable bounce-houses in the gym. Family games and a performance by the Westernette Baton Corp will also be held in the gym. Face painting will be offered for kids of all ages during the event. Hot chocolate, chili and concessions will be available for purchase indoors.

Because Jan. 10 also marks the beginning of football's wild-card playoff games, a "Dad's Den" will be set up inside Community Rec Center featuring football on a large-screen TV.
