Thanks, Dold, for supporting clean power

As a resident of the 10th Congressional District, it was great to see Representative Bob Dold vote against two Congressional Review Act resolutions that would have repealed the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan.

The plan sets limits on carbon pollution from power plants, a historic and important step to combat climate change. Representative Dold demonstrated leadership and an ability to rise above partisan gridlock and put the people of Illinois first.

Strong state targets for clean energy and energy efficiency will help reduce the harmful effects of climate change. The Illinois Clean Jobs Bill (SB 1485/ HB 2607) is the best way for Illinois to comply with the Clean Power Plan. The bill would allow the state to meet the plan's benchmarks by increasing the share of energy Illinois generates from renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, to 35 percent by 2030 and by increasing the state's energy efficiency goal to 20 percent by 2025.

According to an analysis by the Union of Concerned Scientists, the legislation would drive $23 billion in clean energy investment in Illinois while reducing the typical residential customer's electricity bill 23 percent, or $22 a month, by 2030.

Action on climate will help keep Illinois economically viable as it draws investment dollars along with new residents. We need all Illinois lawmakers to understand why it's so important to act on this pressing issue.

As a mother and a soon-to-be grandmother, I am concerned about the future of my children and grandchildren and I thank Representative Dold for his support of the Clean Power Plan.
