Prospect kicks off season of giving with a Winter Coat Drive

Prospect High School and the surrounding community working in conjunction with Button and Zipper will hold a coat drive that runs through Thursday, Dec. 18.

Areas residents are asked to donate gently used winter clothing, including coats/jackets, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, sweatshirts, and hoodies.

These items will be distributed to those in need by Button and Zipper, an organization founded by District 214 graduate Ira Coleman to help at-risk youth and the homeless in Chicago and the suburbs. Prospect hopes to collect 400 winter jackets and coats.

Items can be brought to the Prospect High School Attendance Office during regular school hours, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The school is located at 801 W. Kensington Road, in Mount Prospect.

Area residents will receive a raffle ticket for each item of winter clothing donated. Each raffle tickets will then be included in a larger drawing, and those with the winning tickets will receive a gift card.

For information on donating, please contact Prospect Dean of Students Mark Taylor at (847) 718-5206 or via email at mark.taylor@d214.org.
