Four charged with cannabis trafficking near Aurora

Four people were charged with trafficking after being caught with 157 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $1.4 million Tuesday near Aurora, authorities said.

Luis M. Garcia, 53, of Bolingbrook, and Mexico residents Sergio N. Delgadillo-Alvarez, 42; Ruben Guillen-Hernandez, 55; and Jaime Guillen-Hernandez, 63, were also charged with possession/manufacture of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, according to the Kane County sheriff's department and court records.

Lt. Pat Gengler said the four were arrested Tuesday afternoon after deputies witnessed a suspected drug deal being made in a parking lot off Interstate 88 and Farnsworth Road near Aurora.

Deputies pulled over a Jeep as it left the area, seized the marijuana and arrested the driver, Garcia, of the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive.

Authorities arrested the others in the parking lot after Garcia drove away, Gengler said.

All four men were being held on $2 million bail, meaning each must post $200,000 to be released from Kane County jail while the charges are pending.

Prosecutors also have filed court motions requiring each defendant to prove the bond money comes from legitimate, non-drug sources, if they attempt to post bail.

All four are due in court Dec. 23 and face between 12 and 60 years in prison if convicted.
