Oakton's art museum to showcase African-American artists starting Dec. 10

Oakton Community College's Koehnline Museum of Art, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, is showcasing selections of works from the museum's permanent collection on African-American artists and themes starting Thursday, Dec. 10.

On opening night, the public is invited to a reception with refreshments from 5 to 8 p.m. The free exhibition runs through Friday, Jan. 22.

"Gems From the Koehnline: African American Artists" features graphic work by sculptor Richard Hunt (b. 1935), drawings by Joseph Delaney (1904-1991) and linocuts by Margaret Burroughs (1917-2010). Also on display are African-American portraits by Gregory Orloff (1890-1981), a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by Egon Weiner (1906-1987), and a selection of African-American movie posters.

The Koehnline Museum is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday,
