Man sentenced for molesting child in Elgin
An Evanston man was sentenced to prison Thursday for sexually assaulting a young child in an Elgin home in over a period of a few years, the Kane County state's attorney's office said.
Baraka A. Olla, 41, of the 1300 block of Washington Street, was convicted in September of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a news release.
Olla assaulted the victim - a child under 13 whom he knew - between 2011 and 2014.
Kane County Circuit Judge James C. Hallock sentenced Olla to 13 years in prison: 10 years for the assault count and three years for each of the abuse counts. The abuse counts can be served concurrent to one another but consecutive to the assault sentence.
Olla must serve 85 percent of the 10-year assault sentence. He's eligible for day-to-day credit on the abuse sentence.
He must register for life as a sex offender, and he'll also receive credit for 630 days served in the Kane County jail.
