Meadow Glens celebrates Blue Ribbon with a song

Students and staff members at one of eight National Blue Ribbon Schools in the suburbs celebrated the award with song.

Accompanied by piano and guitar, kids and teachers at Meadow Glens Elementary in Naperville belted out a special tune written to honor their selection by the U.S. Department of Education as a high-quality school and a center of strong student achievement.

The school in Naperville Unit District 203 was one of 335 Blue Ribbon winners this year, and one of five in DuPage County.

Principal Katy Lynch and Learning Support Coach Deb Mitchler traveled to Washington, D.C., in November to receive the award. They brought it back to their 460 students during an afternoon assembly as a way to kick off the learning time between Thanksgiving and winter break.

Educators credited staff members' ability to work together with making the school a place where all can learn and a place worthy of Blue Ribbon recognition.
