Does Statue still epitomize freedom?
Is this what America is about? In that case, maybe the right thing to do is to return the Statue of Liberty to the French since it no longer epitomizes the meaning of America.
An old dictum comes to mind: "There but for the grace of God go I."
And John Donne's words ring more true than ever: "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main ... any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved with mankind: and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." John Donne (1573-1631)
