Waubonsee appoints Oswego man to replace longtime trustee
The Waubonsee Community College board Wednesday night appointed Jimmie Delgado of Oswego as trustee to replace Jim Pilmer.
Pilmer is resigning after 23 years on the board to devote his time to his new job as executive director of the Fox Valley Park District.
Delgado served as a student trustee on the board in 2003. He has an associate degree from Waubonsee, and a bachelor's degree from Aurora University. He is pursuing a master's degree in business administration from Aurora University. He works as a financial controller for the Fox Metro Water Reclamation District, which is based in Oswego.
Delgado ran for one of the two board seats open in the April 2015 election, losing to incumbent Rebecca Oliver and newcomer Patrick Kelsey.
The park district board hired Pilmer in October. He said Wednesday night he did not believe it would be appropriate to serve on the college board while also serving in a policy-making role with another public entity.
He noted that as a trustee, he had read many resumes from job applicants who espoused the belief that lifelong learning is important. Their commitment to that "drives in to you 'What can I do better? What can I do better?'"
Delgado will serve the rest of Pilmer's term, which expires in 2017.
