Nanny who falsely made child abduction claim expected in court Tuesday

A nanny who police say filed a false report claiming one of the three children she was watching had been abducted Saturday in Arlington Heights is being charged with disorderly conduct.

Janina Majerczyk, 63, is free on a $10,000 recognizance bond, and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows, authorities said.

Police say Majerczyk called 911 at 3:21 p.m. Saturday claiming a 3-year-old child had been abducted by two men in the area of North Bradford Drive and East Suffield Drive.

As officers were acting on the report, a woman walking her dog called police to report she had found the child alone at the neighboring Camelot Park, authorities said. Officers then further questioned Majerczyk, who admitted she had made up the abduction claim, according to police.

Majerczyk is from Michigan, but has a local address in the 400 block of East Hintz Road in Arlington Heights.
