Veterans, seniors honored at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Mundelein

Local veterans and seniors were treated to breakfast, bingo and a band concert as part of a Veterans Day celebration Wednesday morning at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Mundelein.

Fifty students from the Sandburg Student Council and Community Service Club participated in the event, which has been held for at least 14 years. About 45 vets and seniors attended.

Student Council sponsor Chris Davis said the event honors veterans and seniors for all that they have done for our country.

"It's also a good way to bridge the generation gap, to get our middle school students talking to older people in the community that they wouldn't normally get a chance to speak to," Davis said. "Community service is very important, showing our community that our school is here and what some good things we're doing."
