Historical dramatist brings FDR to life at Dundee Library Nov. 8

On Sunday, Nov. 8, historical dramatist Robert Lindsey takes on the persona of Franklin D. Roosevelt during one of his famous "Fireside Chats" at 2 p.m. at the Dundee Library, 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68) in East Dundee.

The "president" will speak informally about his presidency, Eleanor, Winston Churchill, Orson Welles and his Scotty dog Fala. Listen as FDR reads Depression-era letters from citizens asking for help, the most touching from children, and recounts the New Deal programs designed to help in the days when the people mattered. Stand with him as he faces the challenges of World War II and the many "ifs" facing the nation in 1942. When skeptics challenged his war production goals, FDR replied, "Let no man say it cannot be done; it must be done and we have undertaken to do it." At the conclusion of his "Fireside Chat," the President invites audience questions. The program is free. To register, visit the library's website at www.frvpld.info, or call (847) 428-3661, ext. 3.

The Fox River Public Library District serves 70,000 residents of Carpentersville, East Dundee, West Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts, and parts of Algonquin.
