Batavia RSVP expands Medical Assistance Program

Changes in some prescription insurance policies that have had a negative effect on seniors are part of the reason the Batavia Retired Senior Volunteer Program has expanded its Medical Assistance Program.

"Fortunately, we've received an additional grant and generous contributions from individuals and community-minded organizations that will fund more assistance to qualified participants," said RSVP President Nancy Brenski.

The Medical Assistance Program currently assists more than 60 Batavia seniors with the cost of their prescription medications. Robert Noerr, board member and administrator of the program, anticipates enrolling perhaps as many as 30 additional applicants once individuals become aware of how much financial help they can receive.

Individuals who think they may qualify must be residents of the city of Batavia or Batavia Township, and complete an application by contacting Batavia RSVP at (630) 406-9993, between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Other programs of benefit to seniors include lockbox, smoke and CO2 alarm installations, and transportation to medical appointments by volunteer drivers as well as an informational referral system all available via the phone number listed above.

While participation in RSVP services is limited to those 65 and older, volunteers may be of any age. There is always a need for volunteer drivers and helpful persons to staff the all-volunteer office. Inquiries about any of the programs or volunteer opportunities are always welcome.
