Epilepsy Foundation to host Purple Shiver 5K at Independence Grove

More than 1,000 people from across the Chicago area are expected to take part in the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago's inaugural Purple Shiver 5K Saturday, Nov. 7, at Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville.

The Purple Shiver will begin at 10 a.m., with participant check-in starting at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $25 for adults and teens in advance, $15 for children ages 5-12 and free for kids under 5. Participants also may register the day of the event for an additional $10.

All participants will receive a free Greater Chicago Epilepsy bandanna. Those who raise $100 or more will receive an EFGC drawstring bag. In addition to the 5K, the events will include family-friendly entertainment, activities and incentive prizes.

Participants may register for the Purple Shiver 5K online by visiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago's website at www.epilepsychicago.org and clicking on the "Purple Shiver" link. From there, individuals can register, build teams, and collect donations from their own fundraising page.

All proceeds will go directly to support the work of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago, a not-for-profit organization that offers counseling, advocacy and educational services to people with epilepsy and their families in 43 counties. The Epilepsy Foundation leads the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome challenges created by epilepsy.
