Waukegan teacher accused of having sex with student

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) - A music teacher at a Waukegan middle school is accused of having sex with an underage student.

Thirty-three-year-old Briana Travis of Mundelein was charged Friday with three counts of criminal sexual assault. She is being held in lieu of $1 million bond.

It was not clear whether she already had a lawyer who could comment on her behalf. Online court records do not list an attorney for her.

Travis is a teacher at Webster Middle School.

A statement from the Waukegan police and the Lake County State's Attorney's Office says the investigation began after a parent contacted authorities about inappropriate text messages between the teacher and a student.

The charges involve an alleged relationship with another student.

Waukegan Public School District 60 says Travis has been placed on administrative leave.
