Girls golf: St. Charles North still in the hunt at state
St. Charles North's girls golf team will need to make up at least 10 shots but the North Stars are in the hunt for a state trophy after Friday's first round of the Class AA state finals in Decatur.
Freshman Megan Furtney shot a 74, just 3 shots off the lead, to pace SCN's 326, which puts the Stars in fourth place entering Saturday's final round at Hickory Point Golf Club.
Kate Lillie had a 79 for SCN, while Gianna Furrie shot 84 and Sarah Arnold 89.
St. Charles East shot 347 and is in a tie for eighth place. Rose Bundy (83), Riley Sullivan (85), Nicole Jordan (88) and Kacie Gaffney (95) scored for the Saints.
Hinsdale Central's Jessica Lee and Barrington's Reena Sulkar are tied for the lead after shooting 71s. Hinsdale Central (307), Loyola (314) and WW South (316) are the top three teams.
Individually, Burlington Central's Josie Kurosky shot an 85 and is tied for 53rd place, while South Elgin's Brynn Warrick is tied for 63rd place at 87, Batavia's Madison McCoy is tied for 80th place with a 91 and Geneva's Natalie Saeger shot a 96 to tie for 97th place.
Class A: Also in Decatur, St. Edward's Jordan Mattas shot a 100 and is tied for 75th place.
