Sheriff: Carjacking suspects could be in Kane County

Two men who may be fleeing a carjacking of a vehicle registered in Chicago could be on the loose in Kane County, authorities said.

Kane County sheriff Lt. Pat Gengler said a Kaneville area resident reported seeing two suspicious people near a park in the village about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies searched the area but couldn't find anyone, but surveillance video later showed the two subjects were women, Gengler said.

Authorities are still searching for the two men - one with dreadlocks - who ran off after a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semitrailer truck about 12:10 a.m. Tuesday along Interstate 88 near Dauberman Road in Kaneville Township, Gengler said in a news release.

Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Jason Bradley said the Chicago vehicle involved in the crash was stolen shortly before midnight Monday. Chicago police confirmed the vehicle was registered in the city and was reported recovered as a possible stolen vehicle, but it may have been stolen from another city.

State police arrested one suspect at the scene of the crash on I-88, but two others ran away and were not found, authorities said.

Bradley did not release the identity of the suspect in custody but said he suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.

No further descriptions are available of the two men who ran off after the carjacking and crash.

Kane County sheriff's deputies have increased patrols in the Kaneville area and notified school officials with Kaneland Unit District 302.
