Girls golf: West Aurora advances 4 to sectional

West Aurora's girls golf team missed out on the final team qualifying spot by just 1 stroke Wednesday but the Blackhawks did advance four players out of the Class AA Waubonsie Valley regional at Springbrook.

Junior Samantha Hall (86), senior Melissa Fidler (88), senior Taylor Ullrich (95) and senior Gabby Pall (97) will all represent West Aurora on Monday at the Neuqua Valley sectional at Naperbrook.

West Aurora took fourth as a team with as 366. The three teams grabbing the qualifying spots for the sectional were Neuqua Valley (342), Waubonsie Valley (347) and Metea Valley (365).

Rosary also advanced two players to the sectional - senior Morgan Martinez with an 84 and senior Ries McCue with an 89.

Neuqua Valley senior Jessica Yuen, the two-time defending state champion, won the individual title with a 67.

Class AA at Huntley: Huntley advanced three golfers out of its own regional at Pinecrest but the Red Raiders fell 5 shots short of a team qualifying spot to Monday's Glenbrook North sectional at Sportsman's Golf Course in Northbrook. Sophomore Katie Weidner (84), junior Caroline Giorgi (85) and junior Nicole Gordus (88) all advanced for Huntley, which shot a 348 as a team. Jacobs junior Stephanie Florentino also advanced with an 85. Rockford Guilford won the regional with a 329, while Hononegah was second at 338 and Crystal Lake Central third with a 343. Guilford sophomore Madasyn Pettersen shot a sizzling 64 to win the individual title.

Class A at Woodstock North: St. Edward sophomore Jordyn Mattas shot a 92 to advance out of the Woodstock North regional at Oak Grove. Elgin Academy freshman Naha Kama also advanced with a 97. They will play in the Nazareth sectional Monday at Village Greens in Woodridge. Plano won the regional title with a 397, Johnsburg was second at 425 and Richmond-Burton third with a 450. Plano senior Rylie Loux was the meet medalist with an 84.
